Where a site located in close proximity to/ or actually has a watercourse or suitable waterbody running through it, an Otter presence/ likely absence survey may be required. 
If this is the case we have the ability and trained ecologists to complete surveys and are experienced in the design and implementation of mitigation strategies for this species.

Otter survey

Otters surveys focus on both the site itself and an appropriate distance up and down stream (Normally 100 metres). Otter surveys we supply include:

  • A visual assessment of habitat suitability to support otters during the various stages of their annual life cycle.
  • A visual inspection for evidence of Otter activity along the watercourse, including footprints, feeding remains, and slides. 
  • Anal Jelly (Translucent jelly) and spraints (droppings)
  • An inspection of suitable areas of adjacent habitat for the presence of Otter holts.
  • Dependent on watercourse and size of survey area these surveys can be done either on foot as a two-man team or by open canoe.
